What Is First Partner Series 3?

First Partner Illustration Collection Series 3 is the third and final series of the Pokémon 30th Anniversary First Partner product, released on August 7, 2026. Across the three series, the product covers every starter Pokémon from all nine generations — 27 starters in total — as clean illustration-rare promo cards with region-themed backgrounds.

Series 3 closes out the run with three generations of starters: Hoenn (Gen 3) — Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip; Kalos (Gen 6) — Chespin, Fennekin, Froakie; and Paldea (Gen 9) — Sprigatito, Fuecoco, Quaxly. The generation split follows the same 1-4-7 / 2-5-8 / 3-6-9 pattern used across the earlier series.

Two things make this release worth a pull-rate breakdown. First, the promo pack is generation-locked — each box gives you one full trio from a single generation, so the real question is which generation you land, not whether you hit. Second, the community spent launch week testing whether the boxes are “mappable” (searchable to a specific generation) the way earlier starter products were rumoured to be. A sealed case holds 6 boxes — so a case is 6 promo packs plus 6 Chaos Rising and 6 Pitch Black boosters. Generation Pull Data: 24 Promo Packs

Aggregated from community openings totalling 24 Series 3 promo packs — two full case openings plus several individual box openings. Because the promo is generation-locked, the pull-rate question here is the distribution of generations, not a rarity ladder.

The honest read: the three generations come out in a roughly even, random split — about one in three each. Hoenn edged ahead in our sample and Kalos trailed, but with only 24 packs those gaps are sample-size noise, not a real weighting. Do not treat 38% Hoenn as a rule — treat every box as a near coin-flip between three generations.

Is Series 3 Mappable? The Case Myth

The biggest question at launch: are the boxes mappable or searchable — can someone weigh, feel, or read a code card to know which generation is inside? And does a full case guarantee an even 2-of-each spread? Based on the openings we tracked, the answer to both is no.

• One full case came out a clean 2 Hoenn · 2 Kalos · 2 Paldea (an even case).
• A second full case came out 3 Kalos · 2 Hoenn · 1 Paldea — three of one generation, only one of another, and not a complete even set.
• Individual box runs showed no order or pattern — one opener pulled two Hoenn in three boxes; another pulled two Paldea in three boxes.

That variance is the whole point: a case is not pre-distributed two per generation. Buying a sealed case gives you a strong chance at all three trios but does not guarantee it — you can end up doubling (or tripling) up on one generation and missing another. There was no evidence of code-card correlation or any way to search a box to a generation.

Chaos Rising & Pitch Black Bonus Hits

Every box throws in one Chaos Rising and one Pitch Black booster from the Mega Evolution block. Across the openings we tracked (roughly 25–30 packs of each set, including some extra loose packs added by one opener), these hit at about the normal block rate — an illustration rare roughly once every nine packs, ex cards more frequently, and the occasional SIR. Expect around 4–5 hits per 12 bonus packs.

The bonus packs are genuine upside — one opener pulled a Mega Dark Cry ex SIR and a Mega Zeraora ex SIR from two different boxes in the same case, and Mega Greninja EX and Mega Dragalge EX showed up more than once. But two packs per box is a small window, so treat any SIR as luck, not an expectation. Buy Series 3 for the promos; the boosters are the sprinkle on top.

The Chase Cards

The real chase in Series 3 is the promo trio you want — most collectors are completing all nine starters or targeting a favourite generation. The bonus-set chases sit underneath.

Should You Open or Buy Singles?

Open if:

• You want the opening experience and are happy with whichever generation you land
• You are completing the full 27-starter run and want two copies of some trios (one raw, one to grade)
• You can get boxes at or near the $12–15 MSRP, not the scalped $30–35
• You want the Chaos Rising and Pitch Black bonus pulls as a side bet

Buy singles if:

• You only want one specific generation's trio — a box is a ~1-in-3 gamble on landing it
• You want a specific bonus-set chase (Mega Dark Cry ex, gold Greninja) — the single is far cheaper than the expected box spend to hit it
• You only care about the boosters — buy Chaos Rising or Pitch Black packs directly at better pack-per-dollar value

The numbers on chasing a specific generation

• Each generation is ~1 in 3 per box, so on average you open ~3 boxes ($36–45 MSRP, more at scalped prices) to land the trio you want.
• A full case ($75–90) gives a strong but not guaranteed chance at all three — one tracked case missed a full trio at 3-2-1.
• The Hoenn trio as singles runs roughly $8–15 each (~$25–45 for all three) — often cheaper and always certain versus gambling boxes.
• Chasing a Pitch Black SIR through boxes is mathematically terrible: you would open many cases before a specific SIR appears. The single at ~$50 is the rational buy.

The honest bottom line: Series 3 is a fun, cheap-at-MSRP way to finish the First Partner run, and the boxes are genuinely not mappable — so you can buy from anywhere without worrying about being searched. But if you want a specific generation's starters, do not gamble on boxes: the promo is a coin-flip between three gens and a case is not a guaranteed even set. Buy boxes for the experience and the completion, buy singles for anything specific, and skip the scalper premium — as the final series with a second wave incoming, supply should improve and prices should settle above the tanked Series 2 (Johto) but below Series 1.
