Market Overview
Mega Evolution — Phantasmal Flames (Inferno X in Japan) released on 14 November 2025. Pricing data here is from PriceCharting as of 4 June 2026 — roughly 6.5 months post-launch. At this stage prices have settled, graded cards have returned from submission services, and the JP/EN spread reflects stable collector demand rather than launch volatility. USD converted to SGD at 1.28×.
Four things make Phantasmal Flames interesting from a JP/EN pricing standpoint:
- Mega Charizard X ex SIR at SGD $1,114 EN — the set's crown jewel, with EN commanding a 2.22× premium over JP
- Dawn runs against the grain — both the SIR and Full Art trainer are more expensive in JP than EN, driven by strong domestic JP collector demand for the Dawn artwork
- Oricorio ex SIR is JP-exclusive — not available in English at all; EN collectors must import
- EN-only Meowth foil at SGD $33 — the most valuable EN-exclusive in the set
The Chase Card: Mega Charizard X ex in All Four Forms
Mega Charizard X ex appears across every rarity tier. Here is where prices stand at the 6-month mark:
| Version | JP (USD / SGD) | EN (USD / SGD) | EN/JP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base #13 | $3.62 / SGD $5 | $5.61 / SGD $7 | 1.55× |
| Full Art #94/#109 | $17.76 / SGD $23 | $36.74 / SGD $47 | 2.07× |
| SIR #110/#125 | $392.13 / SGD $502 | $870.00 / SGD $1,114 | 2.22× |
| Mega Hyper Rare #116/#130 | $256.91 / SGD $329 | $336.50 / SGD $431 | 1.31× |
The SIR is the headline. At SGD $1,114 EN vs SGD $502 JP, EN collectors are paying a SGD $612 premium for the same artwork. This is consistent with SIR pricing across the Mega Evolution series — the EN market is smaller but more concentrated among competitive players and collectors with higher average spend.
The Mega Hyper Rare tells a different story: EN (SGD $431) is 1.31× JP (SGD $329), which is the normal direction. Unlike Chaos Rising where JP commanded a large MHR premium, here EN is pricier — a more typical pattern for Mega Evolution gold cards.
Foil Variants (#81–92 JP / #95–107 EN)
EN foils carry a 1.7–3.1× premium over JP at the 6-month mark. Unlike an early market where foil gaps often compress, these appear to have settled at these levels:
| Card | JP (USD / SGD) | EN (USD / SGD) | EN/JP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Piplup | $5.98 / SGD $8 | $18.36 / SGD $24 | 3.07× |
| Wigglytuff | $2.45 / SGD $3 | $6.51 / SGD $8 | 2.66× |
| Flygon | $2.00 / SGD $3 | $4.50 / SGD $6 | 2.25× |
| Zacian | $1.99 / SGD $3 | $4.13 / SGD $5 | 2.08× |
| Dewgong | $2.62 / SGD $3 | $5.36 / SGD $7 | 2.05× |
| Togedemaru | $1.49 / SGD $2 | $2.54 / SGD $3 | 1.70× |
Piplup foil is the standout at 3.07× — strong EN collector demand for the Piplup line. Wigglytuff at 2.66× is also notable. At the other end, Toxtricity and Ambipom foils are actually JP-pricier ($2.79 JP vs $2.25 EN for Toxtricity; $3.22 JP vs $2.34 EN for Ambipom) — the only matched foils where JP commands a premium.
Two EN-only foils are worth noting separately: Meowth (#106 EN, no JP equivalent) at SGD $33 and Paldean Wooper (#102 EN) at SGD $4.
Special Illustration Rares (SIR) (#110–115 JP / #125–129 EN)
SIR EN premiums range from 0.72× to 3.68×. The spread is wider than typical, driven by the Dawn inversion and the Mega Lopunny ex outlier:
| Card | JP (USD / SGD) | EN (USD / SGD) | EN/JP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mega Lopunny ex | $4.64 / SGD $6 | $17.09 / SGD $22 | 3.68× |
| Mega Sharpedo ex | $10.13 / SGD $13 | $25.00 / SGD $32 | 2.47× |
| Mega Charizard X ex | $392.13 / SGD $502 | $870.00 / SGD $1,114 | 2.22× |
| Rotom ex | $9.45 / SGD $12 | $19.99 / SGD $26 | 2.12× |
| Dawn | $40.52 / SGD $52 | $29.00 / SGD $37 | 0.72× (JP pricier) |
| Oricorio ex | $17.88 / SGD $23 | JP-only — no EN equivalent | |
Mega Lopunny ex at 3.68× has the widest EN/JP gap of any SIR — despite being one of the cheaper SIRs in absolute terms, EN collectors are paying nearly 4× what JP collectors pay. Mega Charizard X ex (2.22×) and Mega Sharpedo ex (2.47×) are the high-ticket SIRs with more moderate premiums.
Dawn SIR is the anomaly: JP (SGD $52) is 39% more expensive than EN (SGD $37). This matches the Full Art Trainer Dawn pattern below, where JP also commands a strong premium (SGD $23 JP vs SGD $9 EN, 0.40× ratio). JP collectors appear to be actively competing for Dawn artwork at a level EN collectors are not.
Base Pokémon Tier (#1–72 JP / #1–84 EN)
Base commons and uncommons follow the standard JP/EN pattern — JP prices hold up better than EN as JP product is harder to source locally:
- Typical JP: $1.50–$2.00 / SGD $2–SGD $3
- Typical EN: $0.10–$0.60 / SGD $0–SGD $1
Notable exceptions at the base level:
- Mega Charizard X ex #13: EN $5.61 (SGD $7) vs JP $3.62 (SGD $5) — 1.55× (competitive demand)
- Empoleon ex #58/#70: JP $2.04 vs EN $1.42 (0.70× — JP slightly pricier, unusual for a base ex)
- Oricorio ex #18: JP $2.01 vs EN $1.00 (0.50×)
EN has 16 exclusive base Pokémon not in JP, including Mega Gengar ex (#56, SGD $4), Mega Diancie ex (#41, SGD $2), and Eternatus (#69) — these only exist in English.
Regional Exclusives
| Card | Region | Price (USD / SGD) | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cottonee #37 | JP only | — | No PriceCharting data |
| Whimsicott #38 | JP only | $1.55 / SGD $2 | — |
| Sneasel #48 | JP only | — | No PriceCharting data |
| Weavile #49 | JP only | — | — |
| Charcadet foil #83 | JP only | $2.99 / SGD $4 | — |
| Oricorio ex SIR #111 | JP only | $17.88 / SGD $23 | Only SIR locked to JP |
| Meowth foil #106 | EN only | $25.75 / SGD $33 | Highest-value EN exclusive |
| Mega Gengar ex #56 | EN only | $3.45 / SGD $4 | — |
| Paldean Wooper foil #102 | EN only | $3.41 / SGD $4 | — |
| Mega Diancie ex #41 | EN only | $1.27 / SGD $2 | — |
The Oricorio ex SIR being JP-only is significant for EN collectors — it is the only SIR in Phantasmal Flames that cannot be obtained in English. Any EN collector building a full SIR run must import from Japan. Meowth foil at SGD $33 is the most valuable EN-exclusive, driven by persistent EN collector demand.
Market Outlook
At 6.5 months post-launch, the Phantasmal Flames JP/EN market has reached a stable state. A few dynamics to watch:
- Dawn premium persistence — The JP premium on both Dawn SIR and Dawn Full Art is unusual and has held for months. Whether JP collector demand keeps this elevated or normalises toward the rest of the set is the key question.
- Mega Charizard X ex SIR trajectory — At SGD $1,114 EN, this is the defining card of the set. SIRs for fan-favourite Pokémon with iconic forms tend to hold value long-term. Monitor graded PSA 10 copies as they become more available.
- Oricorio ex SIR import demand — EN collectors wanting this card must source from Japan. As awareness grows, import demand could put upward pressure on the JP price.
- Mega Lopunny ex SIR (3.68× gap) — At SGD $22 EN vs SGD $6 JP, this has one of the widest EN/JP SIR gaps in the Mega Evolution series relative to its price. Whether this compresses is worth tracking.
